ESSENZ (Earth and Space Science Educators of New Zealand Incorporated) is an Incorporated Society and a registered Charity. To fulfil our legal requirements, we maintain a formal membership roster that must be renewed annually. There is no cost to becoming a member, but we ask that you complete a form annually.
While our primary focus is supporting current teachers of Science and Earth and Space Science (ESS), we warmly welcome members from the wider education sector, industry, and tertiary institutions. ESSENZ only thrives because of the engagement of our members.
As a member, you will receive access to:
Resource Folder: Complete access to current and newly created ESS resources.
Scholarships: Priority access to apply for professional learning and development (PLD) event funding (when available).
Professional Development: Regular webinars, regional enrichment days, and our biannual conference.
Industry Networks: Direct links to relevant industry bodies and tertiary sectors.
Regular Updates: The official ESSENZ newsletter delivered to your inbox.
Derived Grade Exams: We work hard to provide high-quality derived grade exams. This is an expensive process, and we operate on a limited budget so we are introducing a nominal fee for these resources. We greatly appreciate your support in contributing to these costs.
Annual Renewal: Please complete this registration form even if you filled out a similar form last year, as we must refresh our formal membership annually.
Funding & Survey Data: This form includes a few questions about your resource usage. Your answers will remain completely anonymous. This data is required by our funders to determine teaching needs and will be included in our Networks of Expertise (NEX) milestone reports and future funding applications.
Current Cost: Membership is currently free. ESSENZ is funded by the Ministry of Education through a NEX contract until the end of 2028 to support the new curriculum.
Future Subscriptions: While we may introduce a fair, flexible admin fee in the future, there is no fee to join right now.
Who Can Join: Membership is open to all current ESS/Science educators, tertiary/industry partners, and pre-service teachers (trainees). Current primary or high school students are not eligible to join. We request that each educator register individually. It's not much to ask for our great resources and services!
Some schools, particularly Microsoft-based schools, have trouble accessing our resources through a school email account. The solution is to create a Gmail account and use it to access our Google Drives. This short video on managing multiple accounts will also help:
