Aimed at Year 6-8 focused around NOS and making observations of the sky. Develops understanding of clouds, the sun, stars, constellations and the moon.
Making observations and NOS that help understand the solar system, including Mātauranga Māori themes and ideas. Exploring the variaous parts of the solar system including the sun, moon, types of planets and dwarf planets. The unit goes on to investigate human exploration of the solar system.
Students are introduced to Mars and some of the plans and challenges for people travelling to Mars. Collaborative group research activity with resources, including a literacy and debating activity.
Introduces the concept of Earth Systems and 8 of the key reasons why earth is able to support life, yet we have been unable to find life elsewhere. Includes NOS activities and a literacy assessment.
